Becoming a true freshman starter on the offensive line is one of the most difficult things to do at the collegiate level. You’re going from facing 220 or 230-pound defensive linemen on a regular basis at the high school level to lining up across from 270-pounders, at least.

One of the Buckeyes’ last commitments in the 2018 class was five-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere, and if any true freshman offensive tackle is going to have a chance, it’s him.

The Tampa, Fla., prospect is the Buckeyes’ top signee in the 2018 class and even though he’s not an early enrollee, he’s the type of player who won’t have a difficult time adjusting because of his strength, size and football IQ.

Petit-Frere almost looked like a lock to stay down south and play in the SEC for either Florida or Alabama, but Urban Meyer swooped in and stole the five-star. He’s ranked the No. 7 prospect in the class and the nation’s No. 1 tackle.

Jamarco Jones is graduating, leaving the left tackle spot open and Petit-Frere could have a solid battle with Joshua Alabi this summer.
