The rebuilding of the Hogs secondary starts in 2018. Possibly the worst group of defensive backs in the SEC in 2017 will have a lot of fresh faces this year. Most importantly, the core of the secondary is back for his final season in Fayetteville.

Rising senior safety Santos Ramirez could have been considered the MVP of the defense for his efforts in a rough going for the Hogs. However, Ramirez’s impact could span beyond his own efforts. He can serve as a leader for some of the younger defensive backs.

Former three-star athlete, now rising sophomore cornerback Kamren Curl is one of those guys. Curl actually started a good portion of the games for Arkansas in 2017. Yet, in his second full season during his college career, Curl is expected to take a big leap in his development.

In fact, Curl actually tied Ramirez with the most pass deflections on the Arkansas defense last year. He’ll be the heavy favorite to win one of the nods for a starting cornerback spot. Fellow rising sophomore cornerback Chevin Calloway is another player to watch at the same position.
