The time is finally here for Dana Holgorsen and West Virginia football to make a spirited run at the Big 12 Title and national contention.

West Virginia football has a lot of attention on the program before their Spring Game, and during Spring Practice. A quarterback like rising junior Will Grier, and a Heisman favorite, puts a lot of hype around a potential top contender in the Big 12.

The Spring is a very important time for the Mountaineers, with seven early enrollees coming into Morgantown during this semester of school. Any of those seven prospects could make an early impact for West Virginia in 2018, and it starts with a solid effort in Spring Practice.

An opportunity to compete with the Oklahoma Sooners for the top spot in the Big 12 comes with a tough Big 12 slate in 2018. The non-conference slate does not stack up too easily either. West Virginia travels to a neutral site, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC, to take on the Tennessee Volunteers in Week 1.

Then, two weeks later the Mountaineers travel back to North Carolina to face standout quarterback Ryan Finley and the NC State Wolfpack. The Big 12 slate starts off fast too by hosting the Kansas State Wildcats in the first conference affair and traveling to Lubbock to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders the following week.

West Virginia returns a good portion of their starters on both sides of the ball. They do lose some starters in the secondary, but the offense is loaded. The Mountaineers’ offense really only loses running back Justin Crawford and wide receiver Ka’Raun White this year.

Here’s a look at the five players to watch for the West Virginia Mountaineers this Spring.
