Austin Allen, the brother of Jaguars’ 2016 sixth round selection Brandon Allen, looked to be poised to follow in his brothers footsteps as an NFL draftee. Austin was thought to be among the best quarterbacks in the SEC in after his first year as a full-time starter in 2016. He threw for 3,430 yards and 25 touchdowns with 15 interceptions. Then the wheels fell off.

There’s no way to sugar coat it. Austin Allen’s senior season was brutal. Perhaps it was the barrage of sacks and hits that he absorbed from behind a porous pocket. Whatever the cause, Allen’s 2017 season took him from a fringe draft prospect to well off the draft board. Allen played in eight games last season, throwing for 1,427 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.

When he’s playing at his best, Allen has the mental aspect of the game covered. What he can’t fix is his small stature (6-foot), small hands (9-and-5/8 inches) and years of physical abuse his body took in college. He’ll earn an invite to camp, and could stick around on a practice squad if he proves he can pick up an NFL offense. Whether or not he gets onto an NFL field is another question entirely.

The rest of the Razorbacks draft-eligible players are further off the board. Wide receiver Jared Cornelius is recovering from an Achilles injury, and could fight for a roster spot as an undrafted free agent. Other names that could push their way onto the bubble include offensive lineman Paul Ramirez and running back David Williams.
