One of the bigger commitments for Duke football in the past decade, standout Southern Nash 2019 running back Zonovan Knight has pledged to the Blue Devils.

Duke football landed one of their biggest fish in recent memory, on the recruiting trail, with four-star 2019 running back Zonovan Knight. That commitment from Knight boosts the Blue Devils into the top 20 classes in the nation, and third best in the ACC. It’s also Duke’s first four-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting class, and their fourth commit in total.

Among the 16 signees for the Blue Devils in the 2018 recruiting class, only one was rated as a four-star prospect. And, that four-star prospect, Kentucky native strong-side defensive end Tahj Rice, was not rated as high as Knight is in the 2019 cycle.

Here’s what Knight had to say about his decision.

The continuing positive headlines rolled in with a ton of talent in the Blue Devils’ Junior Day festivities, the second time around. It’s not like the first had none, but Duke could be a dark horse candidate to have a recruiting class inside the top 25 rankings in the nation.

David Cutcliffe is already known as one of the most notoriously underrated head coaches in the ACC. That reputation should only pick up from here, if he continues to recruit at this level. The Blue Devils rounded out the 2017 campaign much better than they did the year before, with seven wins including a blowout Quick Lane Bowl victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies.

The improved result could play a role to the momentum on the recruiting trail for the Blue Devils. Duke finished the 2017 season off with three straight wins over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and Northern Illinois.

Outside of Knight, there’s three other prospects that are all rated as three-stars in the 2019 Duke class. Moreover, Knight is the third commit that is a North Carolina native and decided to stay in-state. The other three commits are cornerback Jalen Alexander, cornerback Tony Davis, and offensive guard Jacob Monk.

Add another four-star prospect to this class for the Blue Devils, and they could pull one of their best in recent program history. The pieces are in place for Duke to continue to have a solid underrated Power Five program for years to come. The Bailey, NC, product Knight is the type of running back that can have an immediate impact felt for the Duke offense.
