2018 NFL Combine: Mike Gesicki surges and Winners and Losers from Day 2
Losers
There were 13 different tight ends that took part in the bench press at the combine. Troy Fumagali finished dead last. With guys like Mike Gesicki and Hayden Hurst having strong days on the bench and the field, Fumagali’s dud stood out. That’s not a good thing.
The buzz surrounding Louisville’s Lamar Jackson has been constant since he arrived in Indianapolis. He’s reportedly been asked to work out at wide receiver, but he’s stuck to his guns and repeatedly told people he’s a quarterback. He needed a strong day on the field Saturday to solidify his claims – he didn’t get it. Jackson didn’t get crushed by any means, but he received his fair share of criticism. Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller said he was “still missing high on throws outside the hashes – same issue on tape.”
The plethora of physical examinations at the combine is daunting. Prospects are poked and prodded every which way and the results are available for everyone to see. One of those scans led to Michigan’s Maurice Hurst being diagnosed with a heart condition. The diagnosis, while it might be in the best interest of his overall health, doesn’t bode well for his draft stock. Hurst had been projected somewhere in the mid to late first round.
