Winners

Many had forgotten about Louisville defensive back Jaire Alexander, who missed his final collegiate season due to injury. He’s since healed up and sure looks to be 100 percent healthy, at least, that’s how crisp he looked at the combine. His 4.38 second 40-yard dash was the sixth fasted at his position. He fared well during on-field drills as well. Alexander will reenter the first round conversation heading into the draft.

Ohio State’s Denzel Ward comes from a program overflowing with talented defensive backs. He’s waited his turn and given the chance to shine, he’s proved he’s just as good, if not better than his predecessors. Ward’s state sheets in college were slim, but that’s because opposing offenses learned quickly not to challenge him. His blazing 40-yard dash time of 4.32 seconds along with elite cover skills make him one of the best prospects at his position.

James had a superb week. He outperformed just about all of his competition in the drills and on the field. Any concerns about concentration and work effort were put to bed by a near-perfect showing from the Florida State defensive back this week.
