Losers

Texas A&M safety Armani Watts entered the combine as a Day 2 prospect. A first round grade was going to be a challenge for him, but it could have been attainable with a strong performance. He had a below-average performance in the drills and elected not to run the 40-yard dash.  Watts’ performance won’t crush his draft stock, but he didn’t do anything to elevate his stock this week either.

Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick earns the “loser” title with a significant caveat. Fitzpatrick is still no worse than the No. 2 defensive back in this 2018 class. He was outdone on most drills by Derwin James, opening the door for the Florida State product to jump him on draft boards.

While his teammate Derwin James cemented his elite status, Florida State cornerback Tarvarus McFadden floundered. Once thought of as a first day pick, McFadden slid further down boards at the combine. His performance, compared to some of the better outings  by his  peers, left much to be desired. McFadden came off as stiff and his 4.67 second 40-yard dash did nothing to quell any speed concerns.
