Ole Miss Football: 5 newcomers who could start in 2018
Ole Miss football has sewn up its 2018 recruiting class. Which 2018 signees could become instant starters for the Rebels?
Hugh Freeze resigned prior to the 2017 season amid plenty of controversy surrounding the program and NCAA violations. In came Matt Luke and, under the circumstances, he did a solid job, leading the Rebels to a 6-6 overall record.
Unfortunately, the Rebels were under a self-imposed bowl ban and that turned a lot of current players off to the idea of playing in Oxford for the long term — including starting quarterback Shea Patterson who transferred to Michigan.
Luke was still able to hold on to a number of solid players, such as Jordan Ta’amu, and he has a decent team entering the 2018 season, combined with the No. 31 recruiting class in the nation.
Which five newcomers could start right away for Ole Miss in 2018?
Ole Miss will be without a starting right tackle following the departure of Rod Taylor. That means incoming freshman Hamilton Hall could push for some snaps early on.
Although he’s not the most highly-rated player in the class, he’s a big body, standing 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 315 pounds, and his film speaks for itself. He’s not the quickest player, given his size, but he lays the lumber, especially as a pulling tackle.
Hall is an imposing force up front and rarely gives up much ground. He’d be a nice protector of Jordan Ta’amu under center. Gregory Little already has one side locked down and Alex Givens could take over on the right side, but that would leave a guard spot open.
The Atlanta-native is listed as the No. 1,067 recruit and 100th-best offensive tackle in the class, according to 247Sports.
