NCAA sanctions and the sudden head coaching change sent the Ole Miss program into a minor tailspin last season. Matt Luke has since had his interim tag removed, but that hasn’t stopped a wave of transfers and one early NFL Draft entrant from moving on from Oxford. That early entrant, defensive tackle Breeland Speaks, will be one of several Rebels that figure to be 2018 NFL Draft selections.
Ole Miss had four players selected in the 2017 draft, led by first round pick Evan Engram. They also hold claim to last year’s Mr. Irrelevant, Chad Kelley, who was selected by the Denver Broncos with the final pick of the draft.
Four drafted players looks to be the ceiling for Ole Miss in 2018. That matched the numbers of invitations they received to the 2018 NFL Combine. Along with Speaks, linebacker Marquis Haynes, running back Jordan Wilkins and offensive lineman Rod Taylor made the cut. They were four of more than 330 players invited.
