When they’re not in the midst of the season even the toughest college football coaches need to unwind. Let’s take a little field trip with some of the best.

College Football coaches are finally coming out of their shells and daring to be weird. Nick Saban has fully admitted to being happy, Willie Taggart was able to land yet another dream job, Brian Kelly is doing yoga and we even got to see Larry Fedora eat a slice of pizza.

We are in the era of Mike Leach; the eccentric head football coach of the Washington State Cougars who is known for dishing out dating advice, wedding tips, and pirate trivia.

With the increasing popularity of social media apps like Twitter in the college football world the coaches in the game we love have seemed more comfortable mingling with fans and media members alike. The well-defined wall between the coaches’ office and the fans is more like a thin veil in the era of the Millennial. Temple Football’s “Cheesesteaks with Coach” series made this never more evident.

With that said, envision a reality show where coaches went on a field trip and we got to see them outside of their offices and comfort zones. My sales pitch to a cable sports network would start like so: picture going to play putt-putt mini golf with Steve Spurrier.

No coach would trash talk you into, and for, shooting six plus per hole like Coach Spurrier. Then again, when the windmill kicks his ball out for the third time, you’re guaranteed a visor toss into the nearby koi pond. Coach Spurrier and I would talk Volunteers, Fun & Gun, and Jessie Palmer. Here are the ten coaches I would take on a field trip, starting with the most interesting man in college football- Mike Leach.
