Nebraska football closed its 2018 recruiting class on a high note. Which 2018 signees could become instant starters for the Cornhuskers?
A new era has begun in Lincoln and the fan excitement is at an all-time high. There’s no doubt that this year’s spring game for Nebraska will be jam-packed like usual, but there may be even more fans trying to catch a glimpse of what Scott Frost has to offer in his first season.
The former Nebraska quarterback turned undefeated UCF coach and now Nebraska’s head man is bringing plenty of hype with him back to his old stomping grounds.
With that hype comes an incoming recruiting class which ranked 22nd in the country and fourth in the Big Ten — not too bad for a coach who was just hired a couple of months ago.
Which five 2018 class signees could start for right away for Nebraska?
The past four seasons have brought stability for the Cornhuskers at the place-kicking position under Drew Brown. Now that he is graduated — after making 24-of-28 field goals during his junior and senior seasons combined — it looks like incoming freshman kicker Barreto Pickering has an opportunity to win the starting job.
Brown started as a freshman and finished his career with 59 made field goals and 178 PATs. Under a new regime, Nebraska’s offense could be even more explosive and Pickering could get more opportunities to put points on the board than his predecessor.
The Hoover, Ala., native is ranked the No. 7 kicker in the class and he has quite the leg. He drew interest from other big-time programs such as Texas, Florida and Notre Dame before ultimately settling on Nebraska.
Scott Frost could have his first four-year starting placekicker.
