3. Will Josh Adams’ shoes be adequately filled?

Another early entrant into the NFL draft was junior Josh Adams. The talented running back finished his final season with the Fighting Irish by compiling over 1,400 yards and nine touchdowns on 6.9 yards per touch. Those were solid numbers at the end of the year, but he went into a slump during the final five games.

In fact, he rushed for over 100 yards just one time in the final five contests of the season. If he were to keep his pace that he had in the first eight, he would be talked about as a potential first-rounder in the draft.

Still, he leaves some big shoes to fill this season and Brian Kelly, and the fans, are all hoping to find the answer to questions regarding the backfield.

Dexter Williams looks like the favorite to win the job, but he battled injuries during the 2017 season which kept him out of the regular rotation. When he did play, he was a home-run threat every time he touched the ball, finishing with 360 yards and four touchdowns on 9.2 yards per carry.

Tony Jones Jr. and Deon McIntosh will also be in the mix of things this spring. This could be Williams’ job to lose, as long as he can stay healthy.
