Baylor football closed its 2018 recruiting class on a high note. Which 2018 signees could become instant starters for the Bears?

It was a tough season for the Baylor Bears in 2017. They finished with just a single win, losing 11 times in Matt Rhule’s first year as the head coach. This isn’t the same Baylor team that won 10-plus games on a regular basis under Art Briles, but the potential is there.

The 2018 recruiting class is a step in the right direction as Rhule reeled in the fourth-best group in the Big 12 and No. 30 in the nation. That’s not too shabby for a team that went just 1-11.

Baylor has some players coming in who could find themselves in the starting lineup right away. The Bears have six early enrollees already making a name for themselves this spring and 16 more on the way this summer.

Which five 2018 class signees could start for right away for Baylor?

One of the highest-rated signees in the class is BJ Hanspard who also happens to be an Under Armour All-American. He is listed as an athlete by 247Sports, but he can play both sides of the ball whether it’s at defensive back or receiver.

Although he may be best suited as a cornerback, which he could still contend for this fall, Hanspard could make a move to safety in order to see the field right away. The Bears have lost Davion Hall and he could see time at either safety spot despite not playing that position normally.

Heck, Hanspard is talented enough that he could also play some receiver. The Texas-native stands 6-foot and 170 pounds, which isn’t big, by any means, but it’s the ideal size for a slot-type of receiver or cornerback.

No matter where Matt Rhule finds a spot for him, Hanspard has the potential to start from day one on campus.
