2018 NFL Mock Draft: Complete first round through Pro Days
Many expect the Cleveland Browns to select a quarterback with the first overall pick now. Since each of the top three teams in the draft order now are likely to pick up quarterbacks, the Browns need shifts to picking that position here. It’s just a matter of deciding on who.
It seems like the Browns could go with a few different names with the top pick. Wyoming Cowboys product Josh Allen has possibly the highest upside of any player at his position in this class. If the Browns can develop Allen for a few years into the starting role comfortably, he’ll be a very solid selection here.
Allen would not be widely considered the top overall quarterback in this class. However, this pick for the Browns is more about developing a quarterback for the future, than finding an immediate answer. UCLA Bruins quarterback Josh Rosen would more fit that bill of an immediate impact.
Put an athletic Allen behind another quarterback like the recently acquired Virginia Tech product Tyrod Taylor, and the Browns have a very bright outlook for the future behind center. This is something they cannot screw up on yet again.
