Jack Trice Stadium fills up again on April 14, as Iowa State football takes part in their spring game, featuring star rusher David Montgomery.
The Big 12 has opportunity to make some progress at the top of the conference standings in 2018. A player like star Cyclones running back David Montgomery can help the Iowa State offense keep this team in contention this year.
With a solid group of running backs returning to school in the Big 12 in 2018, holding the title of the conference’s best rusher means a lot. This group of returning rushers in the Big 12 includes Oklahoma State Cowboys’ Justice Hill, Oklahoma Sooners’ Rodney Anderson and West Virginia Mountaineers’ Kennedy McKoy.
There’s a lot at stake for the Clones in 2018. The main goal here is to keep the progress alive, and not fall back near the bottom of the Big 12 standings. Outside of the Kansas Jayhawks, every team in the Big 12 seemingly has a shot to get into the top half of the conference standings this year.
If Iowa State is not prepared at the start of the season, they could lose a lot of the momentum built up through 2017. And, the responsibility to keep the offense going falls directly on the shoulders of Montgomery. He racked up nearly 1,500 total yards and 11 touchdowns. Montgomery took a hold of the starting role, over Mike Warren, during his freshman campaign in 2016.
Over the course of his career Montgomery averaged nearly 5.0 yards per carry, and has played an integral role in the Iowa State passing game. He’s a very versatile running back that makes an impact in nearly every area of offense.
