The only thing missing for Ole Miss football to have a huge year offensively in 2018 is a quality starting running back. Other positions are ready to go.

Ole Miss football has an embarrassment of riches at the wide receiver position once again. It seems to be the one position that the Rebels are never shy on, in terms of pure talent. In the midst of spring practice, the Ole Miss offense has their starting quarterback and receiving corps pretty much set to make a lot of noise in the SEC West in 2018.

An Ole Miss receiving corps that features standout players such as A.J. Brown, DaMarkus Lodge, and D.K. Metcalf, could be one of the very best in the nation, not just the SEC, in 2018. With a former transfer quarterback like Jordan Ta’amu (that rounded out the 2017 campaign well) lining up under center, the Rebels will have a very potent passing attack this year.

In the annual Grove Bowl (Ole Miss’s spring game), the Rebels’ offense was decimated with injuries, including to an important wide receiver in Lodge. And, head coach Matt Luke had Brown only on punt return duty for the day. Metcalf was the only of Ole Miss’s three primary wide receivers that was actual running routes in the game.

Ta’amu and Metcalf shined, including multiple deep pass connections on the day. It highlighted the threat and versatility that the Ole Miss receiving corps will bring to the table this season. Since Metcalf is especially overlook among the top three receivers for Ole Miss, he could be really dangerous. Brown gets most of the attention from fans around the SEC (and the country), and from opposing defenses.

That could open up a ton of room for Metcalf to have a 1,000 receiving yard season, and really develop as an established deep threat in the SEC. There’s so much talent in the Ole Miss receiving corps, and Metcalf, Brown, and Lodge are all going to be playing on Sunday’s here pretty soon. Not enough targets can go around for all three receivers to get the stat line to match their individual skill levels.
