Texas A&M does return a ton of experience along the defensive side of the ball, and the linebacker group is no exception. Rising junior middle linebacker Tyrel Dodson and rising senior weakside linebacker Otaro Alaka highlight that group that can lead the Aggies’ defense in 2018.

The experience should stick out, above all else, on the Texas A&M defense in the spring game. There’s a ton of players trying to prove themselves on the first and second team offenses for the Aggies in spring drills, and some of the more experienced defenders can take advantage of that.

Alaka set career highs in most major defensive stat categories for linebackers in 2017, including total tackles, tackles for loss, sacks, and interceptions. Since he nabbed his first career pick in 2017, it was easy for him to set a record in that particular stat category.

The linebackers were an afterthought of the 2017 version of the Aggies’ defense, due to all the experience in the secondary and the constant spotlight on the defensive line. However, that should all change starting in the spring game here this weekend, in the favor of the linebackers.
