With each passing year, the role of the running back in NFL offenses changes. And with it, the importance seems to get reduced by a greater and greater number. This 2018 NFL Draft class, though, presents some interesting pieces to the position.
Right now, the passing game is at the top of the pecking order in terms of ways teams look to move the ball. But that doesn’t mean running backs are useless. Instead, those occupying spots in the backfield with the quarterback have been forced to adapt, adding new skills to their repertoires.
The group of prospects looking to hear their names called early in the upcoming draft could be some of the best to come down the pipe in years. Heck, if these guys were playing a few short years ago, a handful of them might just have been tabbed first round picks.
