The Big 12 very commonly fields some of the most high-powered offenses in the nation, and it’s no exception with West Virginia football in 2018.
West Virginia football brings back a host of talent to Morgantown for the 2018 campaign. It’s possibly the best roster that Montaineers’ head football coach Dana Holgorsen ever had in his time with the program. Holgorsen can only hope for a Big 12 Championship appearance with such big opportunity come the fall.
It’s clear that the Mountaineers have the nation’s top group of wide receivers coming back this year. The running backs do need some added depth, but the quarterback slot is obviously solidified too. Rising junior Kennedy McKoy at least takes care of the need for a potential star primary running back.
The former transfer quarterback Will Grier leads the way entirely for West Virginia, on both sides of the ball, in 2018. Grier sits among the Heisman favorites at the conclusion of spring practice. He’s also one of the nation’s top quarterback altogether this year.
Canceling the spring game was a real shame for the Mountaineers, and their fans, considering all the hype surrounding the offense right now. Keeping the health of players like Grier and McKoy in mind was the biggest focus for the Mountaineers while canceling the spring game.
Staying healthy is the primary concern for West Virginia’s offense too. Grier went down with a gruesome finger injury against the Texas Longhorns last year, and the season was derailed after that. And, if McKoy goes down, the ground game would really suffer.
However, Holgorsen has always been able to develop running back depth in Morgantown, and should be able to again in 2018. And, as long as the Mountaineers’ offensive line holds up, Grier is likely to be more cautious about his health this season.
West Virginia’s receiving corps has so much depth that is would not hurt them too much if one or two key guys went down. With receivers lining up on the outside like David Sills V, Gary Jennings, Marcus Simms, and T.J. Simmons, West Virginia is set at that position.

Grier is the driving force for this offense, and a schedule featuring some visibly questionable opposing defenses, things line up very nicely for the Mountaineers in 2018. He needs at least 40-45 total touchdowns by season’s end to help West Virginia officially claim stake to the nation’s top offense for the upcoming slate. Everything is falling together nicely at this point.
