2. Is Charlie Brewer ready to break out?

Serious quarterback issues hit Baylor to start 2017. No one was truly sure if Arizona-transfer Anu Solomon would be able to take the reigns of the offense, but after a nightmare-ish start to his Baylor career, he gave way to Zach Smith who had an up-and-down season before surrendering the starting job to freshman Charlie Brewer.

The Bears stuck with Brewer from that point on, for the most part, and he didn’t disappoint. If he got more help from his defense, the Bears may have won more than just a single game.

Brewer finished with 1,562 yards and 11 touchdowns with only four interceptions, completing 68 percent of his passes. He’ll be back as the clear starter for the Bears in 2018 and it’ll be interesting to see if he’s progressed enough to prove himself as one of college football’s premier passers.

There’s no doubt that Brewer has the tools around him to succeed, but he needs to take that next step and prove that 2017 was no fluke.
