Alabama Football: 5 biggest questions facing Crimson Tide in spring 2018
3. What will Jalen Hurts’ role be?
In case you don’t remember what happened in the national title game, let me refresh your memory. Jalen Hurts was struggling a bit under center and the offense seemed to stall out more than Nick Saban would have liked, so he made a bold move to insert freshman quarterback Tua Tagovailoa into the game.
The first-year passer was able to lead the Tide back into it and force overtime with Georgia. The Bulldogs looked to have the game won after a terrible sack taken by Tagovailoa in overtime period, but he wound up and launched a 41-yard touchdown pass to win the game.
It was obvious that Tagovailoa was the best option for the future under center despite Hurts leading the Tide to the biggest stage in back-to-back years.
Hurts may play the role of backup quarterback for the Tide, but he’s far too impressive of an athlete to spend the rest of his collegiate career riding the pine. So what will his role be with Alabama in 2018?
We will soon find out if he’ll find a new spot on the depth chart for the Tide. However, with Tagovailoa fighting injuries, Hurts could make a push for his job back.
