Running Backs

Starting running back: Dexter Williams
Backups: Tony Jones Jr., Jahmir Smith

Despite losing standout running back Josh Adams to the NFL Draft, Notre Dame fans still have much to look forward to when it comes to the Irish run game. Senior Dexter Williams is first in line to handle starting duties, as he has the ability to be a three-down back. However, Williams has struggled in certain aspects of his game and must prove he has the durability to last as a starter.

Should Kelly opt in favor of a thunder and lightning approach in the backfield, sophomore Tony Jones Jr. would certainly serve as the former. At 5-11, 220 lbs, Jones provides a perfect complement to Williams’ game-changing speed. Freshman Jahmir Smith figures to earn a few meaningful snaps while the additions of Jafar Armstrong and Avery Davis to the position provide needed depth.
