NFL Draft 2018: Top 5 late-round quarterback sleepers
By Dana Becker
A sleeper pick if there ever was one, Alex McGough toiled in Florida with Florida International while the “big boys” at Florida State, Florida, Miami and eventually Central Florida stole most of the headlines.
But McGough could have competed for a couple of those teams over his four-year career with FIU.
Making 46 starts, McGough completed 60 percent of his passes for 9,091 yards with 65 touchdowns. He saved his best for last, going 232-for-355 with 2,798 yards and 17 touchdowns to just eight interceptions, giving him a career-high 142.9 quarterback rating.
McGough also threw for a career-best 21 touchdowns his sophomore season when he completed 64 percent of his throws for over 2,700 yards.
There is plenty to like about the 6-2, 220-pounder, but seeing how he reacts to top-level competition could ultimately determine his future in the NFL.
