Texas football is facing an important spring with some questions to answer. What’re the five biggest questions facing the Longhorns?

Tom Herman took over in Austin a couple of years ago knowing full well that the Longhorns would be a work in progress. In his first season, he led Texas to a 7-6 record which was about what was expected in year one, but there’s plenty of improving left to do.

Texas is looking to win double-digit games in 2018 for the first time since 2009 when Mack Brown led them to the BCS National Championship. The Longhorns have won nine games just once in that time frame and at least eight games three times.

Herman will have a solid team returning in 2018, but that doesn’t mean he won’t have questions to answer during Saturday’s spring game.

What’re the five biggest questions facing Texas this spring?

5. Can Brennan Eagles crack receiver rotation?

Texas has its top three receivers returning from the 2017 squad, including Collin Johnson, Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Reggie Hemphill-Mapps. Those three combined for over 100 receptions and 1,500 yards with a combined three touchdowns.

However, Armanti Foreman and Lorenzo Joe are both departing, leaving a potential opening in the receiver rotation. Although Jerrod Heard and John Burt will join the group, incoming freshman and early enrollee Brennan Eagles could be the biggest threat to steal some rotational snaps behind those top three.

Could Eagles crack that rotation this spring and prove himself during the spring game? The four-star Army All-American has the size at 6-foot-3.5 and 214 pounds. His athleticism is a bonus and his strong hands make him a threat to see the field extensively as a true freshman.
