Texas A&M Football Mock Draft 2018: Where will the Aggies land?
By Shelbie Warr
Some have Armani Watts going higher and some lower than this third round projection. He has been called a “feast or famine” type player and as a result he hasn’t established himself as a top ranking defender in the draft. Questions surrounding his ability to be a consistent tackler for an NFL team. He is, however, considered to be a ballhawk. His nose for the ball and sheer football IQ keeps him as a day two pick.
Watts has been called the most clutch player of the 2018 draft. While he isn’t consistently making every play, he seems to make the ones that count. Some of his most memorable plays include game clinching interceptions against Tennessee in 2016 and Arkansas in 2017. Those, among others, are shown below.
“I played box safety, cover safety, been in the post. I think I’m versatile with those and wherever a team needs to put me, I can be there,” Watts said in a pre-draft interview. “Whatever a team needs me to do, that’s what a safety needs to do. I think we’re built for it now a days, so I’m ready for it.”
In my opinion, Watts is a great fit in Tampa Bay. With former Aggie safety Justin Evans on hand as well as wide receiver Mike Evans, Watts is set to be a success with the Buccaneers.
