Texas Football 2018 Mock Draft: Where will the Longhorns land?
By Dina Colunga
Round 4, No. 103 overall: Holton Hill would probably be a second-round projection if not for his suspension last season for violating team rules.
Hill played in nine games in 2017 recording two interceptions, both of which resulted in touchdowns. He had 51 tackles and was primed for post season honors if not for the suspension.
Hill’s 6-foot-3, 200-pound size, athletic ability, and ballhawking skills are what a cornerback needs to succeed in the NFL and his combine results only add to his allure.
40-Yard Dash: 4.49
Bench Press: 14 reps
Vertical Jump: 31.0 inches
Broad Jump: 120.0 inches
3-Cone Drill: 6.83 seconds
20-Yard Shuttle: 4.15 seconds
His instinct and coverage skills are fitting to any scheme and his intelligence is what separates him from other corners. He can disguise zone coverage and stick with elite receivers limiting their contributions.
The Texans are looking to take a cornerback in this draft and worked out Hill during their prospect day. While Houston has three picks in the third round their more pressing needs of a guard and tackles will probably have them using their third round selections on their offensive line.
Since Hill’s draft stock has slipped considerable due to the off-field issues, it could prove to be in the Texan’s favor if they are high on Hill and want him to still be on the board after the third round.
