Is there anything left for rising senior West Virginia football receiver David Sills V to prove in his last season in college?

West Virginia football has one of the most high-profile wide receivers returning back to campus in Morgantown in 2018. This is a solid group of receivers returning across the nation altogether, but there’s a few that really stand out. Among those is the Mountaineers’ reigning All-American pass-catcher David Sills V.

In the first year for West Virginia with star quarterback Will Grier lining up under center, Sills V had quite the massive breakout campaign. He led the nation in touchdown catches in 2017, with 18. Sills V became a vaunted red zone target for the Mountaineers last year.

Altogether, Sills V finished the 2017 campaign with 60 catches for 960 yards and 18 touchdowns. West Virginia’s receiving corps was so good in 2017 that Sills V finished third on the team in receiving yards, behind departed senior Ka’Raun White and rising senior Gary Jennings.

The Mountaineers bring back a loaded group of wide receivers that could be the best in the nation in 2018. That receiving corps includes Jennings, Sills v, Marcus Simms, and former Alabama Crimson Tide transfer T.J. Simmons.

It’s going to be a fight for Sills V to get targets from Grier again. There’s a lot of targets to go around, but West Virginia head football coach also likes to keep a somewhat balanced offense. Rising junior running back Kennedy McKoy is set to take some pressure off the passing game, but that also takes targets away from receivers like Sills V.

A few other names to watch before the 2019 NFL Draft comes around includes Ole Miss Rebels’ A.J. Brown and Miami Hurricanes’ Ahmmon Richards, as potentially the top two wide receiver prospects in that class. Sills V will have to work his way into even the top five in that class.

Here’s a few things that Sills V has to do to establish himself among the very best receivers in the 2019 NFL Draft.
