NFL Mock Draft 2018: Complete 7-Round projections
The Denver Broncos have a hard decision to make at No. 5. They brought in Case Keenum on a 2-year deal, but clearly don’t believe they have the long-term answer at quarterback on the roster. The question is, do they feel comfortable making Baker Mayfield their guy?
Denver could play it safe and get their choice of almost any of the non-quarterbacks in this class, but ultimately they’re going to have to address the most important position on the field. Albeit a bit disconcerting with his moxie and flamboyant behavior, Mayfield is a competitor and a winner – something which general manager John Elway won’t be able to ignore.
Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy and led his team to the College Football Playoff. He did all that after starting his career as a walk on. He has plenty to learn when it comes to the schemes and technique at the next level, but so do the rest of the top passers in this draft.
Already an efficient passer, Mayfield will have the benefit of not being thrust into starting in year one. Having Elway in the building to talk shop won’t hurt either.
