Miami Football 2018 NFL Mock Draft: Where will the Hurricanes land?
Projection: Round 6, No. 197 overall
Christopher Herndon IV will be yet another tight end to come out of Miami with the ability to make an NFL roster and potentially start one day. Herndon was injured late in the 2017 season.

After a career in Coral Gables of being underutilized, hopefully an NFL team can find a purpose for a multi-talented player of his skill set. Herndon is 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds and can line up inline as a tight end, has flexed out in the slot, and has served an h-back role off the wing and in the backfield as a lead blocker. His ability to block and catch makes him a versatile player in the NFL.
The Panthers do have Greg Olsen, but he was injured in 2017 and without him Cam Newton didn’t have that extra playmaker to bail out the offense. Herndon would be a solid second tight end who could provide pass protection while Olsen flexes out in the slot for Newton.
The Panthers carry a fullback but wouldn’t necessarily have to with Herndon on the roster. NFL.com ranks him as a player with starter potential in the NFL and I agree with that assessment.
I wouldn’t expect huge numbers from Herndon but he did average 12.2 yards per catch over his career and scored 7 touchdowns for the Hurricanes.
