The focus around the West Virginia football program in 2018 mainly falls on their star quarterback and wide receiver, but don’t overlook T.J. Simmons.

West Virginia football had to cancel its spring game for what would be the only time they would’ve taken to Mountaineer Field before the start of the 2018 regular season. Since a ton of hype keeps building around a very talented West Virginia offense for this fall, it would’ve been nice to see what they could do against a suspect group on the other side of the ball.

One player that a lot of the fan base really wants to see is the former four-star wide receiver prospects, and transfer from the Alabama Crimson Tide, T.J. Simmons. He could help the Mountaineers be the nation’s best receiving corps in 2018, among a very skilled group at the position.

According to the Charleston Gazette-Mail, Simmons is turning heads in spring practice from both his teammates and the coaching staff. Head coach Dana Holgorsen could always use added depth on the offensive side of the ball, for his high-powered system.

The most exciting part about Simmons’ presence in Morgantown is the potential he has with star quarterback Will Grier in 2018. Although Grier might not be back on campus in 2019, he’ll have the opportunity to have a huge effect on the development of Simmons.

Once other West Virginia wide receivers like David Sills V, Gary Jennings, Marcus Simms, etc. run out of eligibility, Simmons possibly becomes the primary target in the passing game. He’ll have to fight for the targets he gets this season, and that could pay off in a big way moving forward.

The speed and athleticism that Simmons brings to the table just gives the Mountaineers another dynamic factor on offense. Add that to a Heisman candidate at quarterback, two All-American candidates at wide receiver, and proven running back, and you get a scary combination. Watch out for Simmons to become a household name in the Big 12 in the next few years.
