2. First-round hopeful Maurice Hurst will be a Day 3 pick

Red flags were raised during the 2018 NFL Combine regarding former Michigan defensive lineman Maurice Hurst. A heart condition was discovered during the medical testing, throwing Hurst’s draft stock into question.

The situation seemed like it had defused when reports came out soon after that Hurst would still be able to play football. That calm, if it was ever real, has evaporated in the days leading up to the 2018 NFL Draft.

ESPN’s Todd McShay reported that several teams had taken Hurst off their draft board entirely. Hurst, who was projected as a first round pick following the season, has seen his stock erode rapidly.

There are plenty of prospects who face medical issues. Unfortunately for Hurst, his issue can’t be protected against with a practice regime or careful usage. Any type of heart condition is scary, and this will be enough to knock him outside of the Top 100 picks and into Day 3.
