Despite rumors the John Elway was shopping the Broncos fifth overall pick, he stuck to his guns and waited it out and rewarded Denver with North Carolina State defensive end Bradley Chubb. Chubb was rated by many as the best defensive player in the 2018 NFL Draft and was the second defensive player off the board behind Ohio State’s Denzel Ward.
The addition of Chubb added even more firepower to an already stout Denver defense.
Bradley Chubb was seen by many as the premier pass rusher in the 2018 draft class. He absolutely tore it up in his four years at North Carolina State. Chubb recorded 25 sacks in his collegiate career and an eye-popping 54.5 tackles for loss.
How does he fit in Denver?
While Chubb did play in a 4-3 scheme at North Carolina State, don’t be surprised to see him move to a pass-rushing outside linebacker. This is similar to what Jadaveon Clowney did after he was drafted to the Houston Texans and has been quite effective in that role. The thought of Von Miller on one edge and Bradley Chubb on the other is a frightening one for many offenses.

Grade: A
This was a scenario where John Elway needed to simply choose the best player available and that is exactly what he did. Chubb is an outstanding talent with sky-high potential in the NFL as a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker. Denver already possessed an elite defense, but this puts it over the top that much more.
