NFL Draft 2018: Steelers fill major need with Terrell Edmunds
By Jacob Wilson
The Pittsburgh Steelers made the most of their late-round pick with the selection of Virginia Tech’s Terrell Edmunds.
Terrell Edmunds, brother of No. 16 overall pick Tremaine Edmunds, gives the Steelers exactly what they need at the safety position. After combining for nearly 200 total tackles and six interceptions over the course of his career, Edmunds solidified himself as one of the premier safeties in all of college football.
After hearing his name called as the No. 28 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Edmunds is ready to make his presence felt as an NFL starter. In light of the losses of Mike Mitchell, Robert Golden, and even Ryan Shazier, Edmunds’ versatility as both a rover and a safety gives the Steelers much-needed depth at both safety and linebacker, should Pittsburgh get desperate.
Despite initially being dubbed a third round talent, Edmunds will be given an opportunity to start for the Steelers as soon as Week 1 of the regular season. If this is the case, Edmunds will be a benefactor of recently suspect quarterback play from Joe Flacco, Andy Dalton, and whoever the Browns put on the field.

Again, Edmunds fits in great on a team that desperately needed talent at the safety position. His size and coverage ability will give him the opportunity to make plays all over the field, whether at safety or eventually at linebacker — his dynamic ability sets him apart and makes him even more valuable. While Edmunds may have been a reach at 28, the Steelers certainly met a need, and met it early.
