2018 NFL Draft: 3 best picks from Round 2
Pick 7, No. 39 overall
When the Chicago Bears were put on the clock in Round 1 they had their pick from every offensive lineman in the draft other than Quenton Nelson. They opted for stud linebacker Roquan Smith, a good pick at the time, but it meant they would need to address the offensive line in Round 2. Not only were they able to do give quarterback Mitchell Trubisky some much-needed protection, they grabbed one of the best interior lineman in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Coached up by Kirk Ferentz at Iowa, James Daniels was expected by some to be a first round pick. A run on quarterbacks helped drop him into the second day, but he wasn’t on the board long after Round 2 began.
The Bears got themselves a versatile interior lineman that plays technically sound. He’s going to have to add some size and strength at the next level, but an offseason in Chicago will be enough to get him up to speed quickly. Daniels is a potential all-pro player that is going to be a starter on the Chicago line for years to come.
