2019 NFL Draft: Projecting way-too-early top 5 prospects
Shea Patterson has had a topsy-turvy collegiate career. The former No. 1 Pro-style quarterback in the 2016 recruiting class was forced into early action at Ole Miss after Chad Kelly went down with injuries. He led his team to victory on the road over Texas A&M in his first career start and looked impressive in limited action to close out the season.
Seven games into the 2017 season Patterson went down with a knee injury. He was replaced by Jordan Ta’amu who played well enough to earn a chance at the Rebels’ starting job next season, so well in fact, that Patterson thought transferring from the program was best for his future. He decided to play for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan, pending a ruling on his eligibility.
After claiming he was misled about the severity of sanctions that were coming to Ole Miss, Patterson’s eligibility waiver was approved. That makes him the presumptive favorite to win the starting job at Michigan next season.
Patterson has played 10 games in his collegiate career. He has a 23-to-12 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He has a strong arm and good instincts. If he can adapt his game to a more pro-style system at Michigan he’ll be a candidate to be the top pick next year.
