Apparently, I am not alone in my belief that the UCF football team’s national title fracas is just silly.

The participation trophy mentality has finally come to a hilarious conclusion. A bar in Alabama decided that enough was enough on the UCF “National Champions” hootenanny. I’m not saying that this prank might have been alcohol-fueled, but some Alabama fans must have thought that UCF’s constant harping needed to be shut down.

For those of you with short-term memory loss, the 2018 National Championship Game, played in January in Atlanta, saw a loaded Alabama team take on underdog Georgia. In this SEC shootout, Alabama ultimately wore out UGA and took home the trophy with a 26-23 victory played out in overtime.

The fact that UCF just won’t stop blathering on about their rightful place in the national title conversation has annoyed me, and I don’t even like Alabama. I get it, you were undefeated. But spending all the time and money that they have on “National Champions” promotion is starting to look a little sad.

I can’t imagine how this most annoy the bejeezus out of Alabama supporters. In a comedic act of vengeance, a local Alabama watering hole called Gallettes and an SEC YouTube comedy series put together a little gift for UCF — a participation trophy.

I’m sure that we will get a snarky response back from UCF at some point, but since I spend most of the offseason pining for college football, an internet-based war between UCF and Alabama should be all kinds of fun.
