Among all the options for the top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, watch out for West Virginia football’s Will Grier to emerge as the top prospect in the class.

West Virginia football has a ton to be excited about on the offensive side of the ball entering the 2018 regular season. They also have an early season matchup with the Tennessee Volunteers to showcase what they can do offensively to a national audience. One player that figures to take full advantage of that opportunity against the Vols is star Mountaineers quarterback Will Grier.

Since the Big 12 is so thin at quarterback entering 2018, Grier has a huge spotlight on him. The departures of Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield caused a huge gap after Grier in terms of the next best at the position in the conference.

As it pertains to Grier, he needs to keep his focus on having a solid off-season and staying healthy throughout the 2018 regular season. If he accomplishes both of those tasks, he could be the most highly touted quarterback entering the 2019 NFL Draft.

The projected quarterback class for the 2019 NFL Draft does not appear as strong as the 2018 class did. Quarterbacks like UCLA’s Josh Rosen, USC’s Sam Darnold, OU’s Mayfield, and Wyoming’s Josh Allen headlined a class that had all four names taken in the top 10.

If the next class of quarterbacks to be selected in the draft were sorted out today, then Grier would fit among the top three or top five at the very least. Former Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Shea Patterson (currently with the Michigan Wolverines) and Mizzou Tigers’ Drew Lock are also names to watch alongside Grier.

Here are three reasons why West Virginia’s Will Grier could be the first player taken in the 2019 NFL Draft.
