Texas football wrangled in a top 2019 recruit on Tuesday when four-star cornerback Kenyatta Watson announced his commitment.

Texas beat out some of the top programs in the country for Kenyatta Watson, an elite player out of Loganville, Ga., on Tuesday evening.

He held offers from Oklahoma, Georgia and Florida before finally settling on his top two, Texas and Notre Dame.

Watson who is the No. 18 ranked cornerback in the nation and the No. 20 cornerback in Georgia is a huge get for Tom Herman and the Longhorns.

He stands 6-2, 187 pounds and has the size and athleticism to be a dominant college player.

In two years of football, the junior from Grayson High School has recorded 21 total tackles and seven passes defended.

While those numbers may not seem very eye-popping, Watson’s SPARQ rating, which stands for speed, power, agility, reaction and quickness, is the best of every cornerback’s in the country.

His results are as follows:

40-yard dash:  4.50
20-yard shuttle: 4.12
Vertical jump: 45.2
Power throw: 34.0
SPARQ rating: 124.86

Watson’s SPARQ results had coaches salivating at the ways they could use him to their secondary’s benefit and it came down to South Bend or the 40 Acres as the schools where he would showcase his talent for seasons to come.

Watson had taken his official visit to Notre Dame on April 13, and followed up with an official to Texas on April 27.

It seems as though Herman and his staff impressed the young corner and now have the No. 23 ranked 2019 class in the nation, as well as the No. 3 class in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma and TCU.
