Alabama football has built a juggernaut under the leadership of Nick Saban, and the Crimson Tide sit atop the national recruiting rankings once again.

Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Florida State and others have all had their moment in the spotlight, but the Alabama Crimson Tide have regained the lead in the 2019 recruiting race. As the summer begins in earnest the Tide’s 12 blue chip commitments are the most of any team in the nation, setting a breakneck pace which will be nearly impossible for any others to maintain.

It wasn’t that long ago that people had begun to question Alabama’s recruiting prowess. Kirby Smart is building a monster at Georgia, knocking his mentor Nick Saban from the No. 1 ranking in 2018 in the process. At the time the Tide were well outside the top 2019 class and the momentum seemed to have evaporated from Tuscaloosa. Well, that hope was short-lived.

A few months later and things have returned to status quo for Saban and Co. Led by 5-star offensive tackle Piece Quick, Alabama is in the process of building what is sure to become another top-flight class. Whether or not it earns the No. 1 ranking come National Signing Day is still to be seen, but any illusions of Saban’s recruiting dominance beginning to fade were grossly misinformed.

The Early Signing Period will be another wrinkle to keep an eye on this year. Alabama will look to lock up their class early, poaching the last of the available stars from their rivals when the normal signing day arrives in February. It won’t matter if Alabama claims the bulk of their commitments now, in December, or later on, the Crimson Tide will have more than enough talent to reload and begin another quest for a College Football Playoff National Championship.
