With Navy football spring football in the books, and the off-season depth chart set, it’s time to look forward at a few potential breakout stars in 2018.

During spring practices, the Navy coaches evaluate their players for the upcoming season. The quarterback position for all teams is of great importance. However, with Navy running the triple option offense, the quarterback is the most important player on the field. The coaches have selected Malcolm Perry as the starting quarterback they will proceed with heading into fall camp.

Additionally, the coaches use the spring to identify gaps and areas of weakness in the offense and defense. The coaches gave a vote of confidence to Bennett Moehring, who is expected to remain as the starting kicker after last year’s sub par performance.  Lastly, the coach assess players who may be of value contributing to the team in ways such as special teams and specific scout team roles.

Navy returns only a small handful of starters from last year. They return an even smaller number of players who contributed significantly to last years team, and some of the players who played minimal time on special teams are now key starters. Navy has moved players to different positions in order to fill key roles on both offense and defense. Therefore, it will be essential that a few unproven players play up to their potential and boost the Midshipman into contention for the AAC Championship.
