4. Running backs could surprise in 2018

Although there were no true breakout stars in the backfield during the spring game, guys like Eric Swinney and Scottie Phillips looked like a nice one-two punch.

Swinney redshirted as a freshman and was injured after attempting just one rush for six yards in the season opener against Florida State in 2016. He wasn’t able to get back to full health in 2017, recording just 41 carries for 195 yards and three touchdowns, but he showed that he was on the right track. He showed good burst in the spring game and should be the No. 1 back.

Phillips, a JUCO transfer, had a nifty 33-yard touchdown called back because of a holding call and looked like a potential heavy workload guy for the Rebels.

Losing 1,000-yard rusher Jordan Wilkins and watching D’Vaughn Pennamon go down with a serious knee injury at the end of the 2017 season casted doubt on the backfield outlook for 2018, but that may not be the case after all.
