Ole Miss Football: 5 takeaways from Rebels’ spring 2018
3. Matt Corral has plenty of work to do
Sometimes you have to cut kids some slack. Matt Corral, albeit an elite recruit, struggled during the Rebels’ spring game, looking lost at times, but he has plenty of time to right the ship.
Barring some sort of injury to Jordan Ta’amu, Corral won’t see the field much, if at all, in 2018. The Rebels claim they have no plans on redshirting Corral, but that may change, especially if they know Ta’amu is going to be the full-time guy.
The hype surrounding Corral before he got to campus was immense as the Army All-American, and former Florida commit, was considered the next star quarterback for the Rebels and the heir apparent to Ta’amu in 2019. That type of pressure can break a teenager before he even steps foot on the field for his first collegiate game.
Corral was ranked the No. 63 recruit and fourth-best pro-style quarterback in the 2018 recruiting class and was an early enrollee for the Rebels — he has quite the bright future. However, his struggles should show fans that hyping up a kid like this can have consequences. Corral will be just fine, but he has plenty of work to do with his decision-making and vision.
