Michigan State football has made 5-star offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs a top priority in their 2019 recruiting class. Can the Spartans get him to East Lansing?

Devontae Dobbs is a 6-foot-4 280 pound offensive tackle from Bellville Michigan. He plays for a great head coach, in Jermaine Crowell of Bellville High School. As a junior he helped lead his team to a 10-1 record, but their season ended sooner than they expected after falling to Canton in the state playoffs. Expect to see Dobbs and the rest of his teammates come back even more focused next season and challenge for a state championship.

Dobbs is a freakishly athletic offensive lineman who possess really quick feet and an elite ability to pull block and get to the second level to spring the running back. When watching his film you see him get out and  lead block for the ball carrier 30 yards downfield often. He also has great pass blocking abilities, where he shows a good hip bend, and can really slide his feet well to stay in front of his man and steer them away from the quarterback. Dobbs has an elite blend of athleticism and toughness that you don’t see very often at the high school level.

For people who follow recruiting, Dobbs is not a new name to them, he has been dominating opponents since his sophomore year at various elite camps. He earned an invite to the opening last summer after dominating elite players who were older than him. Michigan State head football coach Mark Dantonio extended an offer to Dobbs on June 15, 2016 right after he completed his freshman year of high school. Michigan State doesn’t offer many guys that early, a great statement for just how great of a prospect he is.

Dobbs is an offensive lineman who projects to be an elite tackle at the next level, but has the versatility to play anywhere across the line. He even short snaps the ball for Bellville. He has offers from elite teams across the entire country including Alabama, Ohio State, USC and many others. Dobbs is rated as a five-star offensive tackle and would be one of the highest rated players Michigan State has ever landed.

Dobbs is one of the most important recruits for Michigan State in the 2019 class. Mark Dantonio and offensive line coach Mark Staten have made him a top priority throughout the entirety of his recruitment. Michigan State has made the best players in the state of Michigan a huge priority in their recruiting and a commitment from Dobbs would send another shockwave through the state. Dobbs would join his high school teammates Jahz Watts, Davion Williams and fellow class of 2019 Michigan State commit Julian Barnett in East Lansing.
