Offense

It’s been hard on Florida fans. When you see your program rise up under one of the most iconic coaches of all time–the irascible, smart-aleck, visor-totin’ Steve Spurrier, and then watch your team rack up national titles under Urban Myer’s tutelage, you tend to have certain expectations. Last year, even the most diehard Gator fan found it hard to keep optimistic. To be honest Florida football hasn’t had powerhouse status since 2009.

Before Gators fans start sending vitriol my way, think about it–a 60-41 record over the last seven years isn’t exactly where an SEC team hopes to be.

But this is a new year with a new coach, and the future looks much brighter. The team gained  high-upside wide receiver transfers Van Jefferson and Trevon Grimes. Feleipe Franks is still a question mark–he can run Mullen’s signature spread offense but he makes errors and hasn’t shown much of an ability to read defenses which he might need to succeed in the SEC.

However, Malik Davis should return from the injured list, and the Gators have a lot of depth at the running back position with Lamical Perine and Adarius Lemons also returning to play in the fall. The Gators have a great deal of potential at receiver as well, but they don’t seem to have any star pass catchers yet. They’ll need to find someone to make the big plays. in the meantime, this offense will play a lot of screens and short strikes.
