Texas A&M football once again has a wide open quarterback battle. Which man will step in and lead Jimbo Fisher’s offense in 2018?
Jimbo Fisher brings a new-look offense to Texas A&M. Rather than operating an air raid offense like the Aggies grew accustomed to under Kevin Sumlin, Fisher will ask his quarterbacks to learn a more pro-style system. That’s going to mean a lot of changes in College Station, possibly to the starting quarterback job as well.
Essentially every player in the Texas A&M quarterback room is going to have to start from scratch. The simplified commands of last year have been replaced with more technical jargon and a steep learning curve. Fisher asks a lot of his quarterbacks, but he’s also developed several quarterbacks into early round NFL Draft picks. He’s proven his system can work, he just needs to find the right man to execute it.
Nick Starkel, Kellen Mond and Jake Hubenak all saw meaningful minutes at the quarterback position in 2017. Hubenak has exhausted his eligibility, but Starkel and Mond are both underclassmen. They’ll be challenged by redshirt freshman Connor Blumrick and true freshman quarterback James Foster.
Who will win the starting job in 2018? Fisher has yet to announce a starter, but here’s how the battle stacks up after spring practices.
