Redshirt freshman Connor Blumrick should be considered the early dark horse to contend for the Aggies’ starting quarterback job in 2018. A 3-star recruit from Pearland, Tx, Blumrick’s final high school season was cut short with an injury. Given the breadth of options ahead of him on the depth chart in 2017 the previous staff had no need to rush him onto the field.

Fully healthy, Blumrick will get a fair look at the starting job next season. Kevin Sumlin recruited both of the more highly regarded passers on the team. By all accounts he wasn’t willing to pull the plug at any point on his blue chip prospects, regardless of who gave Texas A&M the best chance to win football games.

Jimbo Fisher has no such bias. He doesn’t care who started last year, who played last year or how many stars these players brought with them to College Station. He’s going to play the best player, which very well could be Blumrick.

Although Blumrick has a better chance to see meaningful minutes that Foster, he isn’t going to be a favorite to earn the starting job. However, if there is another injury or the given starter struggles early on in the fall he could be the next man up.
