Bama fans should know better than anyone the importance of a good punter – and how valuable it is to find one who can contribute right away. J.K. Scott came to Tuscaloosa as a freshman in 2014 and had a marvelous four-year career, but he’s in the NFL now after the Packers grabbed him with a fifth-round pick.

In comes true freshman Skyler DeLong, who is the favorite to grab the starting punter spot right away. DeLong, like, Surtain, was a flip from a fellow SEC school. He originally committed to Tennessee before changing allegiances and sticking with the Tide in June of 2017.

The true freshman, ranked as the fourth-best punter in his class, enrolled early and will be hoping to pick up right where Scott left off in 2018. If he comes anywhere near filling those shoes, the Tide’s special teams should keep on rolling.
