5. Arm strength

In this video, Wimbush showcases his adept downfield passing ability. It also shows the hand injury he suffered against the Demon Deacons en route to a touchdown run. Luckily, the injury didn’t slow him down as it was his off hand that took the grunt of the blow at the goal line.

I’ve always admired quarterbacks that took chances as opposed to throwing quick-hitters or running a series of check downs. Wimbush falls into that category as he isn’t afraid to take shots downfield, and any quarterback that has such tremendous arm strength should put those talents to good use.

Though sometimes, those types of throws leave him more susceptible to balls being batted down, nearly intercepted, or intercepted as was the case only six times last season. However, his aggressiveness in the passing game sure has its advantages.

Last season, Wimbush threw for 1,870 passing yards on 136 completions for 16 touchdowns. For some of the elite quarterbacks in college football who put on an aerial assault, these numbers aren’t particularly eye-opening, but they are very respectable for his style of play.

In 2017, Wimbush showed he wasn’t afraid to challenge secondaries. In nine of his 12 games played, he threw for at least 150 yards and in three games, he eclipsed the 200-yard mark.
