After a recovery year, UConn football will look to compete for the AAC Championship. Can Randy Edsall bring UConn back to their former glory?

Last year, Coach Edsall returned to UConn after five years at the University of Maryland and one year with the Detroit Lions. It’s fair to say that his season was a disappointment. With an overall record of 3-9, and 2-6 in conference, the team chalked up the season as a rebuilding year.

This year, the Huskies enter fall camp with a proven coach who has a year under his belt. Additionally, the team has a more experienced secondary, an area of significant weakness last year. However, it is still unknown how much improvement can be made from giving up 519 yards per game last year.

In his second year as the Defensive Coordinator, Billy Crocker, will look to develop his young defensive players. For starters, they need to improve from their fourth from worst ranking in Total Defense last year.

More questions lie with the offense. Last year, the Huskies ranked 87th in Rushing Offense, with a mere 3.6 yards per carry. The team started eight different lineman, four of which are not returning this year. Furthermore, the quarterback position has been an issue for Connecticut in recent years. This year, rising senior David Pindell is expected to be under center. And it doesn’t appear there will be much competition for the job. Let’s dig deeper into the offense.
